How to Read the Starting Hands Chart

This chart shows which hands to play from each position in a standard 6-max Texas Hold'em game. The 13x13 grid covers all 169 possible starting hand combinations. Pairs run along the diagonal, suited hands are above the diagonal, and offsuit hands are below.

Green cells are hands you should open raise with from that position. Blue cells are hands good enough to call (typically in the big blind vs a raise). Everything else is a fold.

Position Matters

Notice how the chart opens up dramatically from UTG to the Button. Under the Gun plays roughly 12% of hands, while the Button can profitably open 40%+. This is because later position gives you more information and positional advantage throughout the hand.
