Small Stakes Poker Tournaments has been suggested by YourHandSucks.com writer and owner Jason Frakk, as the very best book to learn poker strategy. Under his description, the book is full of tips and tricks that are v in-line with playing online poker in 2020. It is important to understand that older poker strategies have lost some of their effectiveness over time, especially when we consider online poker as the mainstream form of poker right now for most people (more true now than ever with pandemics keeping players on routine lockdowns).
This is why Small Stakes Poker Tournaments nails it. Instead of focusing on professional brick and mortar casino tournaments like the WSOP and EPT, or even big online tournaments, it focuses on small stakes poker tournaments. This makes a lot of sense since most people, if not all, begin their poker journey playing online small stakes. Even pros make a living milking these types of tournaments.
The book is perfect for beginners and those focused on small online tournaments and Sit N Go’s. One of the main takeaways is the advice on how to beat your opponents by recognizing their habits and use against them. The steps, strategies, and tactics are explained in an easy to follow language breaking down everything into categories.
The book is short, because, why not? There is really no need for a long and detailed poker book explaining all the poker terms and complex math when you are a green player. This is the perfect book for poker beginners on the path to their first million. For those with an experience that need some strategy refreshment, the book can be a checklist of the basics to win at online poker by 2020 standards.
The only word of caution for poker beginners, this book does employ heavy use of poker terms which can be a bit confusing. Read our resource about poker terminology and this poker positions names page so the reading becomes comfortable as you read.
This is the #1 poker book for beginners. There might be other legendary poker bibles out there, but this one is the one, to begin with. After you can continue with our top 40 poker books list to perfect online skill, learn live poker tournament specific tactics, and some more complex strategies. Sometimes the best takeaways from the older books are the stories about legendary players when they talk about specific hands they lost or won in spectacular fashion thanks to a strategy they executed or failed to read right.
